But what exactly constitutes a local move?

A move is classified as local when it meets the following criteria:

• Both the origin and destination are within the same metropolitan area.
• The distance between the two locations is no more than 20 miles.
• The entire move, from start to finish, is handled on the same day by a single crew.

Typically, local moves are billed either at an hourly rate or a flat rate, depending on the moving company’s policy. When the distance exceeds 20 miles within the same state, it transitions into an intrastate move. Intrastate moves are often priced based on the weight of your belongings or a combination of hours worked and distance traveled. If you’re moving to another state, it becomes an interstate move, commonly known as a long-distance move.

Please note that any additional mileage beyond the initial 20 miles will incur a charge of $0.50 per mile.
